Karen Treu is the resource director and ASL Liaison for Proskuneo Ministries. She has been married to her best friend, Bruce , for 20 years.
Coming to Christ…
Karen was raised in a Christ-centered home and came to know the Lord at an early age. Her father was a pastor and passionate Bible teacher.
“One Sunday evening, after a service at church, I came home and asked my mother how I could be saved. She asked me a ton of questions to be sure I understood what salvation meant.
I accepted Christ as my Savior that very night with my mom beside me! When I think back on it now, I realize what a HUGE blessing that was to have had a mother and father who loved the Lord—who cared enough about their children to pray for them and encourage them to come to know Christ in a personal way. I give God praise for a godly Mother and Father!”
Since that time she’s continued to grow more aware of God’s mercy and grace. She holds on to the powerful scripture in Philippians 1:6 which says:
“… being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
The Deaf and the Hard of Hearing…
God has given Karen a true passion for the ASL language and the Deaf. She was first introduced to the language at age 16.
“It was at a concert for a (then famous) Christian artist. I stopped watching the singer and started watching the interpreter. I was amazed and captivated by the beauty of the language.”
She took several beginner sign language classes over the years, but never met a Deaf person. She set aside learning the language because there were no Deaf people in her immediate surroundings. About four years ago Karen felt the Lord calling her to learn sign language more intentionally.
Out of her act of obedience and prayer God put her in places where she meets many Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. She still continues to learn ASL via tutoring and by regularly getting together with the Deaf in her area. She also uses ASL in Proskuneo concerts and events.
Her duties….
Karen is extremely busy when it comes to her duties at Proskuneo, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
A few of Karen’s job responsibilities at Proskuneo include: overseeing the CD production, keeping inventory on all their resources, helping with promotion, making sure Josh Davis has everything he needs prior to a worship service/speaking engagement, managing the resource tables, and coordinating resource volunteers.
